Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the February 1, 2021, military coup and the emergence of the Spring Revolution, a total of (3,206) people, including pro-democracy activists and other civilians, have been killed through military crackdowns against the pro-democracy movement.

Since the coup, a total of (17,303) people are currently under detention, (5,493) of whom are serving sentences. There are a total of (108) post-coup death row prisoners as of April 3, 2023. (121) people have been sentenced in absentia, of whom (42) have been sentenced to death. This makes a total of (150) people who have been sentenced to death. (3,844) people have already been released. 

These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

According to information gathered today, on the evening of March 31, junta forces bombed U La Ba Pagoda between Wae Gyi and Inn Daung Villages in Tigyaing Township, Sagaing Region, where the internally displaced people were located. The junta used fighter planes for the bombing, which killed six locals and injured five locals. The deceased include Soe Naing, Nyo Nwet, Aung Paing, and Mar Lar Moe, all from Wae Gyi Village. The other two deceased individuals have yet to be identified.

In addition, on March 30, the Myitkyina District Court sentenced Daw Thet Htar Hnaung to serve 11 years in prison under Section 50(j) of the Counter-Terrorism Law. Daw Thet Htar Hnaung is State Hluttaw Representative and NLD member from Mohnyin Township, Kachin State. On August 4, 2021,  junta forces arrested Daw Thet Htar Hnaung at her house in Aung Mingalar Ward in Nam Mar Town, Kachin State. The Myitkyina Township Court had previously sentenced her on May 26, 2022, to serve a year in prison under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code.
