Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the February 1, 2021, military coup and the emergence of the Spring Revolution, a total of (3,185) people, including pro-democracy activists and other civilians, have been killed through military crackdowns against the pro-democracy movement.

Since the coup, a total of (17,067) people are currently under detention, (5,264) of whom are serving sentences. There are a total of (108) post-coup death row prisoners as of March 30, 2023. (121) people have been sentenced in absentia, of whom (42) have been sentenced to death. This makes a total of (150) people who have been sentenced to death. (3,843) people have already been released. 

These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

According to information gathered today, on March 25, at around 8 a.m., around 50 junta personnel raided and set fire to Sone Kone Village in Budalin Township, Sagaing Region. As a result, visually-impaired persons and other ill locals were burned alive, as they were unable to flee. Around 180 houses were burned down. The seven deceased individuals were Kyi Myint (aka Japan Gyi), Khway Ma, Khin Myint, and Tin Ei, all in their eighties; Pyae and Kyi Aung, both age 75; and San Myint, age 50.

In addition, on March 25, at around 1 p.m., while two men on a motorbike were passing a junta checkpoint in Ka Ma Hlaing Village, Tanintharyi Township, Tanintharyi Region, a junta personnel shot at them for allegedly being PDF members. As a result, Than Linn Chit, who was riding on the backseat, fell off the bike from getting shot and died on the spot. Pyae Sone Aung (aka A Linn Yaung), who was driving the motorbike, was also shot; he drove to a clinic in Pa Wa Village and died while seeking treatment there.
