According to information gathered today, on March 28, the Dawei District Court sentenced a former chairman of Dawei District Students’ Union, Myo Min Oo, and a member of Dawei Technological University Students’ Union, Aung Wai Yan Tun, to each serve 10 years in prison under Section 50(j) of the Counter-Terrorism Law. Myo Min Oo and Aung Wai Yan Tun are both students of Dawei Technological University. In May 2021, the junta arrested Myo Min Oo for the first time for protesting against the military dictatorship. He was sentenced under the Penal Code. Then, six months later, on October 20, 2021, he was released. On September 12, 2022, the junta arrested him for the second time in Khon Win Dap Ward, Dawei Town. On September 11, 2022, the junta arrested Aung Wai Yan Tun at his house in Kyet Sar Pyin Ward, Dawei Town.

In addition, on March 27, at around 12 p.m., junta forces fired heavy weaponry in Mae Yone Lay Village, Kyaikto Township, Mon State, despite no clash taking place. One of the artillery shells exploded in a plantation field in the village, instantly killing local gardener Hlyan Htet Aung as he was working in the field. Six other local gardeners were injured. The six were sent to Kyaikto Township Hospital for treatment; Saw Naung, one of the six, died at the hospital while being treated.
