Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the February 1, 2021, military coup and the emergence of the Spring Revolution, a total of (3,154) people, including pro-democracy activists and other civilians, have been killed through military crackdowns against the pro-democracy movement.

Since the coup, a total of (16,925) people are currently under detention, (5,163) of whom are serving sentences. There are a total of (108) post-coup death row prisoners as of March 22, 2023. (121) people have been sentenced in absentia, of whom (42) have been sentenced to death. This makes a total of (150) people who have been sentenced to death. (3,844) people have already been released. 

These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

According to information gathered today, on March 20, at around 7 p.m., junta forces fired heavy weaponry at Karawayseik (Upper) Village in Bilin Township, Mon State. An artillery shell exploded on a house in the village; killing Kalar on the spot while seriously injuring his son Aung Lwin. He died while being transported to Bilin Township Hospital.

In addition, on March 18, a vehicle convoy of the junta forces raided Say Min Taw Village along Tilin-Gangaw Street in Tilin Township, Magway Region and killed two locals. The deceased were Bo Tin and mentally-unwell Than Min Aung. Their bodies were discovered after the junta forces had left.
