Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the February 1, 2021, military coup and the emergence of the Spring Revolution, a total of (3,146) people, including pro-democracy activists and other civilians, have been killed through military crackdowns following pro-democracy movements.

Since the coup, a total of (16,837) people are currently under detention, (5,114) of whom are serving sentences. 

It is verified that two detainees in prisons have been sentenced to death on March 16, 2023. There are a total of (105) post-coup death row prisoners as of March 20, 2023. (121) people have been sentenced in absentia, of whom (42) have been sentenced to death. This makes a total of (147) people who have been sentenced to death. (3,842) people have already been released. 

These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

According to information gathered today, on March 18, at 3 p.m., an artillery shell fired by Junta Artillery #314 exploded in A Wun Gyi Village, Shwe Yaung Pya Village Tract, Bilin Township, Mon State. As a result, an artillery shrapnel hit a 6-year-old child called Saw Phoe Thingyan on the head, killing him instantaneously.

In addition, on March 17, junta forces raided and attacked Shwe Khae Pyan Village, Madaya Township, Mandalay Region. The terrorist troops captured and then killed a local woman named Khin Moe Moe Swe. On March 18, at around 1 p.m., her body was discovered near a stream of the village.
