Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the February 1, 2021, military coup and the emergence of the Spring Revolution, a total of (3,124) people, including pro-democracy activists and other civilians, have been killed through military crackdowns following pro-democracy movements.

Since the coup, a total of (16,470) people are currently under detention, (5,055) of whom are serving sentences. There are a total of (103) post-coup death row prisoners as of March 13, 2023. (121) people have been sentenced in absentia, of whom (42) have been sentenced to death. This makes a total of (145) people who have been sentenced to death. (24) people have been released on bail, and (3,841) people have already been released. These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

According to information gathered today, on the afternoon of March 9, junta forces arrested two women driving a motorbike at the checkpoint near Kaleinaung Bridge in Kaleinaung Town, Yebyu Township, Tanintharyi Region. The women are 17-year-old Kay Thi Thi Linn from Zin Bar Village and 18-year-old Thet Myat Noe from Nwe Li Village, Kyauk Shat Village Tract. They were interrogated at the Kaleinaung Myoma police station, and on March 10, they were taken to an interrogation center located in Kaleinaung Town on the military base of Light Infantry Battalion No. 410.

In addition, on March 10, at 7 a.m., junta forces stationed in San Thit Village, Kyunsu Township, Tanintharyi Region, fired heavy weaponry indiscriminately without any battle taking place. One of the artillery shells exploded in Lel Thit (East) Village in Tanintharyi Township. As a result, 10-year-old Hein Linn Ko was killed by artillery shrapnel hitting his chest; no more than six others were injured.
