Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the February 1, 2021, military coup and the emergence of the Spring Revolution, a total of (3,120) people, including pro-democracy activists and other civilians, have been killed through military crackdowns following pro-democracy movements.

Since the coup, a total of (16,432) people are currently under detention, (5,012) of whom are serving sentences. There are a total of (103) post-coup death row prisoners as of March 10, 2023. (121) people have been sentenced in absentia, of whom (42) have been sentenced to death. This makes a total of (145) people who have been sentenced to death. (24) people have been released on bail, and (3,841) people have already been released. These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

According to information gathered today, on March 9, at around 9 a.m., a military column of the junta forces fired heavy weaponry at and then raided Nyaung Won Village in Pauk Township, Magway Region. One of the artillery shells exploded on a house in the village, killing two women. The junta column was stationed at a monastery in Pyin Chaung Village, Pauk Township.

In addition, on March 8, at around 3 p.m., around 30 personnel, including junta forces and Pyu Saw Htee members, attacked Na Bu Taw Village in Yinmarbin Township, Sagaing Region. The personnel were stationed in Bant Bwe Village in Yinmarbin Township. They shot palm tree climber Zaw Min in the back, killing him. Moreover, the indiscriminate gunfire from the personnel frightened Mya Aye, another palm tree climber, causing him to fall to his death from a palm tree.
