Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the February 1, 2021, military coup and the emergence of the Spring Revolution, a total of (3,110) people, including pro-democracy activists and other civilians, have been killed through military crackdowns following pro-democracy movements.

Since the coup, a total of (16,304) people are currently under detention, (4,908) of whom are serving sentences. There are a total of (103) post-coup death row prisoners as of March 6, 2023. (120) people have been sentenced in absentia, of whom (41) have been sentenced to death. This makes a total of (144) people who have been sentenced to death. (24) people have been released on bail, and (3,839) people have already been released. These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

According to information gathered today, on March 4, at around 10 a.m., approximately 50 personnel, including junta forces and Pyu Saw Htee members, attacked Aout Kyauk Wut Village in Launglon Township, Tanintharyi Region. They arrested six locals hiding in a monastery and shot them, killing five and injuring one. The deceased were Naw Aye, Tin Htay, Hla Maung, Than Win, and Ka Yin.

In addition, on March 1, at 9 p.m., there was an explosion and then gunfire in Pauk Tai Village in Dawei Township, Tanintharyi Region. The next day at 3 p.m., junta forces wearing civilian clothes raided three houses in Pauk Tai Village. The houses belonged to three villagers: Tin Soe, Thet Shein, and Khin Maung Kyaw. After raiding their houses, the junta forces arrested them.
