Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the February 1, 2021, military coup and the emergence of the Spring Revolution, a total of (3,085) people, including pro-democracy activists and other civilians, have been killed through military crackdowns following pro-democracy movements.

Since the coup, a total of (16,120) people are currently under detention, (4,745) of whom are serving sentences. There are a total of (103) post-coup death row prisoners as of March 3, 2023. (120) people have been sentenced in absentia, of whom (41) have been sentenced to death. This makes a total of (144) people who have been sentenced to death. (24) people have been released on bail, and (3,838) people have already been released. These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

According to information gathered today, on February 28, at around 7 p.m., junta forces, based in Pekon Town, fired heavy weaponry at Khaung Ei Village Tract in Pekon Town, Shan State. An artillery shell exploded on a monastery in a village located in Khaung Ei Village Tract, killing two brothers.

In addition, on February 28, at around 10 p.m., junta forces and Pyu Saw Htee members arrived on motorbikes and arrested four individuals: Soe Thu Win, Phoe Aye, Maung Maung, and Khin Yu Mon. They then shot the four dead and left the bodies on the Ywar Sone Village in Myingyan Township, Mandalay Region. They all participated in anti-junta activism, in addition to being NLD supporters.

AAPP will continue to inform on verified daily arrests, charges, sentences, and fatalities in relation to the attempted coup, and update the lists with details of these alleged offenses.
