Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the February 1, 2021, military coup and the emergence of the Spring Revolution, a total of (3,075) people, including pro-democracy activists and other civilians, have been killed through military crackdowns following pro-democracy movements.

Since the coup, a total of (16,108) people are currently under detention, (4,720) of whom are serving sentences. There are a total of (103) post-coup death row prisoners as of March 2, 2023. (120) people have been sentenced in absentia, of whom (41) have been sentenced to death. This makes a total of (144) people who have been sentenced to death. (24) people have been released on bail, and (3,837) people have already been released. These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

According to information gathered today, on February 28, around 80 junta personnel attacked Bo Tae Village in Wetlet Township, Sagaing Region, and set two houses on fire. As a result, 70-year-old Tin Hla was burned alive in one of the houses because she could not flee the attack.

In addition, on February 27, the Indaw Town Military Tribunal in Katha District, Sagaing Region, sentenced Min Min Oo (aka Lamin) to life imprisonment under Section 50(j) of the Counter-Terrorism Law. Min Min Oo was a resident of Kan Ni Village, Indaw Township. He was accused of being a member of the People’s Defence Force. On February 8, he was arrested at a checkpoint in Indaw Town.
