Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the February 1, 2021, military coup and the emergence of the Spring Revolution, a total of (3,000) people, including pro-democracy activists and other civilians, have been killed through military crackdowns following pro-democracy movements.
Since the coup, a total of (15,882) people are currently under detention, (4,398) of whom are serving sentences. There are a total of (103) post-coup death row prisoners as of February 17, 2023. (120) people have been sentenced in absentia, of whom (41) have been sentenced to death. This makes a total of (144) people who have been sentenced to death. (24) people have been released on bail, and (3,833) people have already been released. These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.
According to information gathered today, on February 13, around 100 personnel, including junta forces and Pyu Saw Htee members, raided Let Pan Hla Village in Khin-U Township, Sagaing Region, and set houses on fire. As a result, a nun named Sate was burned alive in her house, as she could not flee because of her age.
In addition, on February 15, the Pathein Prison Special Court sentenced Soe Paing Oo to serve 20 years in prison under Counter-Terrorism Law Sections 49(a), 50(f), and 52(a). A local of Pathein Town, Soe Paing Oo actively participated in anti-military protests. He was accused of carrying weapons for the revolutionary forces in Pathein Town and was arrested on December 2, 2021.
