Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the February 1, 2021, military coup and the emergence of the Spring Revolution, a total of (2,948) people, including pro-democracy activists and other civilians, have been killed through military crackdowns following pro-democracy movements.

Since the coup, a total of (13,793) people are currently under detention, (2,302) of whom are serving sentences. There are a total of (101) post-coup death row prisoners as of February 2, 2023. (121) people have been sentenced in absentia, of whom (42) have been sentenced to death. This makes a total of (143) people who have been sentenced to death. (24) people have been released on bail, and (3,787) people have already been released. These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

According to information gathered today, Soe Yadanar Oo, a resident of Za Bu Thi Ri Township, Nay Pyi Taw, was accused of posting about the silent strike on social media. The junta arrested her on January 30. On the following day, the junta charged her under Section 52-a of the Counter Terrorism Law in Za Bu Thi Ri Township Court.

In addition, Hla Aung, a resident of Aung Chan Thar Ward, Indaw Township, Sagaing Region, was in front of his house taking photos of the empty streets during the silent strike on February 1. The junta’s patrolling police encountered him taking photos and arrested him.
