Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the February 1, 2021, military coup and the emergence of the Spring Revolution, a total of (2,947) people, including pro-democracy activists and other civilians, have been killed through military crackdowns following pro-democracy movements.

Since the coup, a total of (13,787) people are currently under detention, (2,299) of whom are serving sentences. There are a total of (101) post-coup death row prisoners as of February 1, 2023. (121) people have been sentenced in absentia, of whom (42) have been sentenced to death. This makes a total of (143) people who have been sentenced to death. (24) people have been released on bail, and (3,787) people have already been released. These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

According to information gathered today, on January 27, the junta attacked Kokko Kone Village, Kawlin Township, Sagaing Region, with two fighter aircrafts. During the attack, the junta shot local Khaing Zin Nwe in the head, killing her on the spot.

In addition, on January 30 at 8 p.m., in Ngwe Twin Village, Ayadaw Township, Sagaing Region, junta forces and the local Pyu Saw Htee arrested three villagers for questioning. Those villagers were Zaw Naing, Kyaw Min Soe, and Shit Bot. On January 31, the junta told Kyaw Min Soe’s family members to come and pick up his body. The condition of the other two locals is still unknown.
