Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the February 1, 2021, military coup and the emergence of the Spring Revolution, a total of (2,827) people, including pro-democracy activists and other civilians, have been killed through military crackdowns following pro-democracy movements.

Since the coup, a total of (13,658) people are currently under detention, (2,170) of whom are serving sentences. There are a total of (101) post-coup death row prisoners as of January 25, 2023. (121) people have been sentenced in absentia, of whom (42) have been sentenced to death. This makes a total of (143) people who have been sentenced to death. (24) people have been released on bail, and (3,775) people have already been released. These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

According to information gathered today, on January 22 at around 10 p.m., three NLD members – Ko Gyi, his younger brother Zaw Gyi, and Zaw Gyi’s wife – were arrested in their home by junta forces in great numbers. They were living in Inn Tae Ei Kin Ward, Aungmyaythazan Township, Mandalay Region.

In addition, on January 23, junta forces raided villages in Yinmarbin Township, Sagaing Region. During the raid, the junta arrested Nay Tun and killed him by cutting off his head and arm. Nay Tun was from Na Buu Taw Village. He was living in Than Pa Yar Pin Yoe cluster in the northern part of Sone Chaung Village.
