Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the February 1, 2021, military coup and the emergence of the Spring Revolution, a total of (2,747) people, including pro-democracy activists and other civilians, have been killed through military crackdowns following pro-democracy movements.
Since the coup, a total of (13,590) people are currently under detention, (2,139) of whom are serving sentences. There are a total of (100) post-coup death row prisoners as of January 17, 2023. (121) people have been sentenced in absentia, of whom (42) have been sentenced to death. This makes a total of (142) people who have been sentenced to death. (24) people have been released on bail and (3,750) people have already been released. These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.
According to information gathered today, on January 14 at 4 p.m, university student Win Zaw Tun, who lived in Tha Yet Kone Village, Hla Pa Chin Village Tract, Nattalin Township, Bago Region, was going from Tha Yet Kone Village to Nattalin Town. He drove his motorcycle through the junta’s checkpoint at the entrance of Kyot Lay Pin Village, Kone Thar Village Tract, Tar Pun Town. As a result, he was shot four times and killed by Kyaw Min Thu, a soldier who was at the checkpoint.
In addition, on January 3 at around 5 p.m., junta forces fired heavy weaponry into Lwe Htway Village, Loikaw Township, Kayah State, despite no clashes taking place. As a result, local villager Nan Mray died from injuries to her head, ribs, and hips by an artillery shell. Another woman was also injured.
