Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the February 1, 2021, military coup and the emergence of the Spring Revolution, a total of (2,743) people, including pro-democracy activists and other civilians, have been killed through military crackdowns following pro-democracy movements.
Since the coup, a total of (13,592) people are currently under detention, (2,136) of whom are serving sentences. There are a total of (100) post-coup death row prisoners as of January 16, 2023. (121) people have been sentenced in absentia, of whom (42) have been sentenced to death. This makes a total of (142) people who have been sentenced to death. (24) people have been released on bail and (3,732) people have already been released. These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.
According to information gathered today, on January 13, social influencer Kyaw Ye Htwe, aka A Lin Tha Khin, was sentenced to ten years’ imprisonment with hard labour by Muse District Court in Shan State under Section 50(j) of the Counter-Terrorism Law. Kyaw Ye Htwe was arrested at his house in Muse Township on October 4, 2022.
In addition, on January 12 at 2 p.m., the junta attacked Lay War Village, Pay Kay Village Tract, Hpapun Township, Kayin State, with two aircrafts by dropping six bombs, some of which exploded on the church in the village. Five locals, including two pastors, were killed, and seven were injured by the explosion. The five deceased were Saw Ready, Saw Chan Aye, Saw Phar Blae, Naw Lar Kler Paw, and Naw Marina, who was two years and 11 months old.
