Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the February 1, 2021, military coup and the emergence of the Spring Revolution, a total of (2682) people, pro-democracy activists and other civilians have been killed through military crackdowns following pro-democracy movements.   

Since the coup, a total of (13,156) people are currently under detention, (1828) of whom are serving sentences. There are a total of (97) post-coup death row prisoners as of December 28, 2022. (121) people have been sentenced in absentia, of whom (42) have been sentenced to death. This makes a total of (139) people who have been sentenced to death. (24) people have been released on bail and (3456) people have already been released. These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

On December 26, at around 2 p.m., four civilians died and five were injured when the junta bombed Nyaung Kan Village, Saw Township in Magway Region by aircraft. The four killed civilians were Saw Wine, Zaw Min, Zaw Htay Win and Kyaw Htay Linn.

On December 26, at around 8 p.m., the junta fired heavy weaponry into the villages despite no clashes taking place. Artillery shells exploded on a household in Kawt Pyin Village in Mone Town, killing 7-year-old Thoon Wati Kyaw on the spot.
