Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

According to AAPP documentation, at least (900) houses and buildings have been sealed off by the junta between February 2021 and November 2022.  

Since the February 1, 2021, military coup and the emergence of the Spring Revolution, a total of (2611) people, pro-democracy activists and other civilians have been killed through military crackdowns following pro-democracy movements.          

Since the coup, a total of (13,088) people are currently under detention, (1725) of whom are serving sentences. There are a total of (97) post-coup death row prisoners as of December 16, 2022. (121) people have been sentenced in absentia, of whom (42) have been sentenced to death. This makes a total of (139) people who have been sentenced to death. (24) people have been released on bail and (3450) people have already been released. These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

According to information gathered today, On December 13, 2022 Bo Bo Nge, a deputy chairman of the Central Bank, was sentenced to twelve years imprisonment. He was sentenced by the prison court, under two charges of the Counter-Terrorism Law. He was sentenced to eight years imprisonment for one charge and twelve years imprisonment for another. Bo Bo Nge was arrested on February 1, 2021 and  prosecuted by the junta under the Counter-Terrorism Law in Pha Yar Kone Myoma Police Station, Nay Pyi Taw on May 10, 2022 after having been detained for over one year already.

In the morning of December 16, two children were killed by a military junta unexploded ordnance in Yin Paung Taing Village, Yinmarbin Township, Sagaing Region. The armed wing of the junta carried out air-strikes here in August 2022. The two killed children were five-year-old Htet Bhone Naing and seven-month-old Hein Thura Kyaw.
