Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

According to AAPP documentation, at least (900) houses and buildings have been sealed off by the junta between February 2021 and November 2022.  

Since the February 1, 2021, military coup and the emergence of the Spring Revolution, a total of (2604) people, pro-democracy activists and other civilians have been killed through military crackdowns following pro-democracy movements.          

Since the coup, a total of (13,083) people are currently under detention, (1717) of whom are serving sentences. There are a total of (97) post-coup death row prisoners as of December 15, 2022. (121) people have been sentenced in absentia, of whom (42) have been sentenced to death. This makes a total of (139) people who have been sentenced to death. (24) people have been released on bail and (3450) people have already been released. These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

According to information gathered today, 78-year-old former political prisoner Shwe Htoo, 57-year-old Sein Linn, and 40-year-old Banyar, were sentenced by Pyinoolwin District Court to each serve 17 years in prison. The trio were sentenced on December 12 under two charges of Counter-Terrorism Law, having been detained by the junta on April 29, 2022, at a plantation in A Nee Sa Khan Ward, Pyinoolwin Town. It was following 8 months of detention in Obo Prison they were sentenced.

On December 11, 5 locals and 2 PDF personnel were arrested by the junta, in Wah Yaung Village, Ayadaw Township, Sagaing Region. The junta then killed the 2 PDF. The victims were 24-year-old Zaw Myo (aka Nyo Lone) and 39-year-old Aung Min Tar (aka Aung Myitar).
