Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

According to AAPP documentation, at least (900) houses and buildings have been sealed off by the junta between February 2021 and November 2022.  

Since the February 1, 2021, military coup and the emergence of the Spring Revolution, a total of (2566) people, pro-democracy activists and other civilians have been killed through military crackdowns following pro-democracy movements.          

Since the coup, a total of (13070) people are currently under detention, (1701) of whom are serving sentences. There are a total of (97) post-coup death row prisoners as of December 9, 2022. (121) people have been sentenced in absentia, of whom (42) have been sentenced to death. This makes a total of (139) people who have been sentenced to death. (24) people have been released on bail and (3449) people have already been released. These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

On December 7, Thian Lian Sang, a reverend from the Falam Baptist Church in Mandalay, was sentenced to a total of 23 years of imprisonment. Thian Lian Sang was sentenced to three years imprisonment with hard labor under Section 505 A of the Penal Code, and another twenty years of imprisonment with hard labor under Section 49 (a) of the Counter-Terrorism Law. On September 16, 2021, he was arrested at his house, by the armed wing of the junta.

On December 7, at around 7 a.m., seven civilians were arrested by the armed wing of the junta, and taken to Shwepyithar Interrogation Center. They all live in Mya Kyun Thar Compound, Htain Nha Pin Village Tract, Htantabin Township, Yangon Region. Among those arrested is 11-year-old Naw Han Ni Su, as well as Naw Phaw Lay, Saw Kyaw Zaw Hein, Myo Thet Tun, Aung Htet, D Pa and Htet Nyi Oo.
