Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

According to AAPP documentation, at least (900) houses and buildings have been sealed off by the junta between February 2021 and November 2022.  

Since the February 1, 2021, military coup and the emergence of the Spring Revolution, a total of (2565) people, pro-democracy activists and other civilians have been killed through military crackdowns following pro-democracy movements.          

Since the coup, a total of (13060) people are currently under detention, (1686) of whom are serving sentences. There are a total of (97) post-coup death row prisoners as of December 7, 2022. (121) people have been sentenced in absentia, of whom (42) have been sentenced to death. This makes a total of (139) people who have been sentenced to death. (24) people have been released on bail and (3448) people have already been released. These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

Political activist Phyo Phyo Min Maung, from No.9 Ward, Pakokku Township, Magway Region, was accused of donating money in support of local PDFs. She was beaten and arrested by junta forces and police, during the evening of December 2. Phyo Phyo Maung was charged with Counter-Terrorism Law Section 50 (j) at Pakokku Myoma Police Station. 

Political prisoner Yar Zar Tun, currently incarcerated in Dawei Prison with an already decades-long prison sentence, was sentenced to an additional 7 years of prison time. He was sentenced on the charge of Penal Code Section 302/144, by Dawei District Court, Tanintharyi Region, on December 1. Previously, he had been sentenced to 21 years imprisonment in September 2021, and he was given an additional 20 years in October of 2022.
