Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

According to AAPP documentation, at least (900) houses and buildings have been sealed off by the junta between February 2021 and November 2022.  

Since the February 1, 2021, military coup and the emergence of the Spring Revolution, a total of (2561) people, pro-democracy activists and other civilians have been killed through military crackdowns following pro-democracy movements.          

Since the coup, a total of (13048) people are currently under detention, (1681) of whom are serving sentences. There are a total of (97) post-coup death row prisoners as of December 5, 2022. (121) people have been sentenced in absentia, of whom (42) have been sentenced to death. This makes a total of (139) people who have been sentenced to death. (24) people have been released on bail and (3448) people have already been released. These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

On November 30, Pyapon local Kyaw Moe was sentenced to serve 15 years in prison by Pyapon Township Court, in Ayeyarwady, on the charges of Counter-Terrorism Law Section 50(j) and 52(a). He was accused of attending PDF training and was arrested at his home in Pyapon Town on September 7, 2021.

On December 1, two local women were burnt to death and more than 150 houses were destroyed by fire. A column of the armed wing of the junta raided and set fire to Sar Htone Ywar Thit Village, Salingyi Township, Sagaing Region. The two deceased women were 90-year-old blind Than Ngwe and 85-year-old A Mar Gyi, who had recently had a stroke.
