Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

According to AAPP documentation, at least (900) houses and buildings have been sealed off by the junta between February 2021 and November 2022.  

Since the February 1, 2021, military coup and the emergence of the Spring Revolution, a total of (2553) people, pro-democracy activists and other civilians have been killed through military crackdowns following pro-democracy movements.          

Since the coup, a total of (13040) people are currently under detention, (1680) of whom are serving sentences. There are a total of (97) post-coup death row prisoners as of December 2, 2022. (121) people have been sentenced in absentia, of whom (42) have been sentenced to death. This makes a total of (139) people who have been sentenced to death. (23) people have been released on bail and (3447) people have already been released. These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

We have confirmed through our sources that 7 Dagon University students and 4 youths activists against the military coup, were sentenced to death by the Insein Prison Martial Court on November 30.

The 7 students were sentenced to death under Section 302 (a) of the Penal Code by the Insein Prison Martial Court for allegedly shooting dead the World Treasure bank manager Lt. Col. Saw Moe Win in Dagon Myothit (South) Township on April 18, 2022.

The 4 other youth activists were sentenced to death for their alleged involvement in the shooting and death of Khin Maung Than, the administrator of Ward 45, Dagon Myothit (North) Township, on May 24 this year.

On November 30, a student from Magway Medical University called Kaung Sett Naing was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment under Counter-Terrorism Law Section 49 (A). Kaung Sett Naing was sentenced by the Myawaddy District Court in Kayin State for allegedly  supporting the CRPH, NUG and PDF. He was detained at a junta checkpoint between Myawaddy and Lay Kay Kaw Myothit on his way to Myawaddy for his work, on December 6, 2021.
