Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

According to AAPP documentation, at least (786) houses and buildings have been sealed off by the junta between February 2021 and October 2022.  

Since the February 1, 2021, military coup and the emergence of the Spring Revolution, a total of (2553) people, pro-democracy activists and other civilians have been killed through military crackdowns following pro-democracy movements.          

Since the coup, a total of (13002) people are currently under detention, (1655) of whom are serving sentences. There are a total of (86) post-coup death row prisoners as of November 30, 2022. (121) people have been sentenced in absentia, of whom (42) have been sentenced to death. This makes a total of (128) people who have been sentenced to death. (23) people have been released on bail and (3447) people have already been released. These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

On November 29, Tun Tun Hein, Deputy Chairman of Pyitthu Hluttaw and Central Executive Member of the National League for Democracy (NLD), was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment. He was sentenced by a prison court in Lashio, Shan State, under Section 122 of the Penal Code. Previously, Tun Tun Hein had already been sentenced to four years in December, 2021. 

During October 2022, nine female People’s Defence Force medics were sentenced to 12 years imprisonment each, under Section 505 A of the Penal Code and the Counter-Terrorism Law, in a prison court in Kale Township, Sagaing Region. They are Daisy Van Lal Rawni, Zam Zo Zam, Lal Muan Kimi, Laltlan Hlui, Lal Pian Feli, Man Lam Dim, Niang Don Ciin, Lal Lun Sangi and Mal Sawn Dawngi, who were all arrested on November 16, 2021.
