Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

According to AAPP documentation, at least (786) houses and buildings have been sealed off by the junta between February 2021 and October 2022.  

Since the February 1, 2021, military coup and the emergence of the Spring Revolution, a total of (2552) people, pro-democracy activists and other civilians have been killed through military crackdowns following pro-democracy movements.          

Since the coup, a total of (12998) people are currently under detention, (1636) of whom are serving sentences. There are a total of (86) post-coup death row prisoners as of November 29, 2022. (121) people have been sentenced in absentia, of whom (42) have been sentenced to death. This makes a total of (128) people who have been sentenced to death. (23) people have been released on bail and (3447) people have already been released. These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

Nine children between the ages of 14 to 17, were accused by junta authorities of having connections with the PDF. On November 28, they were sentenced to serve 2 years in prison each under Counter-Terrorism Law Section 52, by Nattalin Township Court, Bago Region. The nine children were 17-year-olds Ye Yint Htet, Thura Aung, Theint Theint Moe, Ma Su Hnin Yi Aung and Myat Thu Htet, 16-year-olds Wai Phyo Aung and Arkar Phone Myat, 15-year-old Hmue Myat Ko Ko and 14-year-old Khin Nyein Chan. They were arrested in February 2022 and are currently being detained at Nattalin Myoma Police Station.

On November 28 Wai Linn Aung, Pyithu Hluttaw Representative for Myaungmya Township for NLD, Ayeyarwady Region, was sentenced to serve 26 years in prison with hard labor. Myawaddy District Court, Kayin State, sentenced him to serve 26 years imprisonment under the charges Counter-Terrorism Law Section 52 (a), 50 (a) and 50 (j), and 20 years imprisonment under the charge Penal Code Section 122. However, the court decided to let him serve both sentences simultaneously, rather than consecutively. As a result, instead of serving a total of 46 years in prison, he was sentenced to serve 26 years in prison. Wai Linn Aung was arrested on December 15, 2021.
