Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

According to AAPP documentation, at least (786) houses and buildings have been sealed off by the junta between February 2021 and October 2022.  

Since the February 1, 2021, military coup and the emergence of the Spring Revolution, a total of (2525) people, pro-democracy activists and other civilians have been killed through military crackdowns following pro-democracy movements.          

Since the coup, a total of (12923) people are currently under detention, (1601) of whom are serving sentences. There are a total of (86) post-coup death row prisoners as of November 21, 2022. (121) people have been sentenced in absentia, of whom (42) have been sentenced to death. This makes a total of (128) people who have been sentenced to death. (22) people have been released on bail and (3371) people have already been released. These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

On November 17, at 4:30 PM, BGF-1011 Battalion, led by 2nd Company Commander Lieutenant Nyein, fired with various weaponry into Mi Kayin Village. This resulted in the deaths of 2 locals, 7-year-old Naw Khaing Thazin Khin and 27-year-old Saw Aung Myint Tun, who died instantly, and injured two other people.

On November 16, an artillery shell was fired from No.24 Kyein Chaung Inspection Gate and No.7 Border Guard Police Division in Maungdaw Township, Rakhine State, which exploded in Gyake Chaung Village Maungdaw Township. The shelling caused the death of 11 locals and an additional 24 people were injured. Of the injured, 16-year-old Ngwe Paing ultimately died on November 18, while seeking medical treatment in Sittwe People’s Hospital.
