Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

According to AAPP documentation, at least (786) houses and buildings have been sealed off by the junta between February 2021 and October 2022.  

Since the February 1, 2021, military coup and the emergence of the Spring Revolution, a total of (2408) people, pro-democracy activists and other civilians have been killed through military crackdown following pro-democracy movements.             

Since the coup, a total of (12830) people are currently under detention, (1624) of which are serving sentences. There are a total of (86) post-coup death row prisoners as of November 2, 2022. (121) people have been sentenced in absentia, of whom (42) have been sentenced to death. This makes a total of (128) who have been sentenced to death. (22) people have been released on bail and (3188) people have already been released. These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly. 

On October 31, Win Myint Hlaing, Regional Hluttaw Representative of  NLD party of Taungdwingyi Township, Magway Region, was sentenced by Magway District Court to serve 148 years in prison. He was sentenced on the charges of Counter-Terrorism Law Section-51 (c), Section-54, Section-50 (a) and Section-52 (a). He had already been sentenced to serve 25 years in prison on 5 other charges, including Penal Code Section 505 A. Win Myint Hlaing was arrested at the entrance of Lawksawk Town, Shan State, on November 8, 2021.

On October 30, a junta column of around 100 troops, launched an offensive into Ywar Thar Ywar Village, Indaw Township, Sagaing Region. They then beat and killed 17-year-old Aung Myo Min, accusing him of being a graduate trainee of the People’s Defense Force. The forces had left his body on the side of a road. He was arrested because he ran into the junta column in the village, after which they discovered pictures of him graduating from the PDF training on his phone.
