Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

According to AAPP documentation, at least (786) houses and buildings have been sealed off by the junta between February 2021 and October 2022.  

Since the February 1, 2021, military coup and the emergence of the Spring Revolution, a total of (2407) people, pro-democracy activists and other civilians have been killed through military crackdown following pro-democracy movements.             

Since the coup, a total of (12821) people are currently under detention, (1616) of which are serving sentences. There are a total of (86) post-coup death row prisoners as of November 1, 2022. (121) people have been sentenced in absentia, of whom (42) have been sentenced to death. This makes a total of (128) who have been sentenced to death. (22) people have been released on bail and (3188) people have already been released. These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly. 

On October 29, Min Zaw Oo, a surgical lecturer at University of Medicine, Mandalay’s Department of Surgery, and Zin Mar Win, a CDM nurse at Mandalay General Hospital, and Poe Thandar Aung, a CDM midwife from Mandalay Central Women’s Hospital were arrested by junta forces. Also arrested were CDM nurses Kyi Tha Dar Phyu and Yoon Nanda Tun. All five were arrested in Mandalay City on October 29 after being accused of supplying medicine to the PDF

On October 31, at around 11 PM, junta Operations Control Command-9 (OCC-9) situated in Kyauktaw Township, Rakhine State, indiscriminately opened fire with heavy weaponry. One of the artillery shells landed and exploded near a household in Pi Si Village, Kyauktaw Township, resulting in the killing of 3 family members who were sleeping in the housing complex. The killed were Soe Win, Than Than Wai (aka Pu Kay) and their 14-year-old sixth-grade student daughter Phyo Phyo Wai. Four of their cattle were also killed.
