Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

According to AAPP documentation, at least (780) houses and buildings have been sealed off by the junta between February 2021 and September 2022.  

Since the February 1, 2021, military coup and the emergence of the Spring Revolution, a total of (2377) people, pro-democracy activists and other civilians have been killed through military crackdown following pro-democracy movements.             

Since the coup, a total of (12712) people are currently under detention, (1591) of which are serving sentences. There are a total of (84) post-coup death row prisoners as of October 21, 2022. (121) people have been sentenced in absentia, of whom (42) have been sentenced to death. This makes a total of (126) who have been sentenced to death. (22) people have been released on bail and (3179) people have already been released. These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly. 

On October 17, Phone Pyae Paing was sentenced to ten years imprisonment under Section 50(a) and 52(a) of the Counter-Terrorism Law by the Pyay District Court in Bago Region. Phone Pyae Paing was sent to Pyay Prison. He is a member of the Basic Education Students Union in Shwedaung Township, Bago Region.

On the night of October 19 , Aung Kyaw Kyaw was detained by junta soldiers who claimed to be questioning him. Other men who live in Myo Ma Kwat Thit Ward, Natmauk Township, Magway Region, with Aung Kyaw Kyaw were also arrested over allegedly planting landmines and planning mine attacks. On October 20, Aung Kyaw Kyaw was killed from beatings by junta soldiers. His dead body was cremated by family on that day. Other persons were not allowed by the junta to escort his funeral.
