Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Updated 14 October 2022

According to AAPP documentation, at least (780) houses and buildings have been sealed off by Junta between February 2021 and September 2022.

Since the February 1, 2021, military coup and the emergence of the Spring Revolution, a total of (2356) people, pro-democracy activists and other civilians have been killed through military crackdown following pro-democracy movements.

Since the coup, a total of (12655) people are currently under detention and (1548) are serving sentences. There are a total of (84) post-coup death row prisoners as of October 13, 2022. (121) people have been sentenced in absentia, of whom (42) have been sentenced to death. This makes a total of (126) who have been sentenced to death. (22) people have been released on bail and (3176) people have already been released. These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

Political activist Hnin Nu Nu Lwin, who had been issued a warrant under Section 505 A of the Penal Code in Kyaukme Township, Shan State, had previously evaded arrest and was now staying in Mandalay. She and two of her friends, women who own the house where she was staying, were arrested at night on October 10. The location where three of them were detained is unknown. As Hnin Nu Nu Lwin protested against the coup and supported protesters, she was charged and had been issued a warrant by the junta since April, 2021.

On October 12, three local villagers who were herding cows in a farm near Hgnet Pyaw Taw Village, Kyunhla Township, Sagaing Region, were accused of being People Defence Force (PDF) and arrested by the armed wing of the junta and pro-junta militia. A 14-year-old child was released, but the two others were tied up with ropes at their backs and were shot dead in Kyauk-I Village. One of the two youths killed was Kyaw Htet, from Hgnet Pyaw Taw Village.

AAPP will continue to inform on verified daily arrests, charges, sentences and fatalities in relation to the attempted coup, and update the lists with details of these alleged offenses.
