Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

According to AAPP documentation, at least (760) houses and buildings have been sealed off by Junta between February 2021 and August 2022.  

Since the February 1, 2021 military coup and the emergence of the Spring Revolution, a total of  (2281) people, pro-democracy activists and other civilians have been killed through military crackdown following pro-democracy movements.             

Since the coup, a total of (12412) people are currently under detention and (1472) are serving sentences. There are a total of (84) post-coup death row prisoners as of September 16, 2022. (121) people have been sentenced in absentia, of whom (42) have been sentenced to death. This makes a total of (126) who have been sentenced to death. (22) people have been released on bail and (3112) people have already been released. These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly. 

In the morning of September 16, the armed wing of the junta fired heavy weapons indiscriminately into Mobye Town, Pekon Township, Shan State. One of the artillery shells exploded on Mway Taw Monastery in Mobye Town, resulting in the deaths of two sisters, who were 10 and 7 years-old, and 2 men aged 50-years-old. They were among people seeking refuge in the monastery and 13 others were seriously injured in the attack.

Htet Htet Khaing, a reporter and presenter of the BBC Media Action, was sentenced to three years in prison with hard labour under Section 505A of the Penal Code. She was arrested on the night of August 15, 2021, at Shwe Gon Yeik Mon Housing in Bahan Township by Junta forces.
