Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

According to AAPP documentation, at least (709) houses and buildings have been sealed off by Junta between February 2021 and July 2022.
Since the February 1, 2021 military coup and the emergence of the Spring Revolution, a total of (2191) people, pro-democracy activists and other civilians have been killed through military crackdown following pro-democracy movements.
Since the coup, a total of (12027) people are currently under detention and (1390) are serving sentences. There are a total of 83 post-coup death row prisoners as of August 15, 2022. (121) people have been sentenced in absentia, of whom (42) have been sentenced to death. This makes a total of (125) who have been sentenced to death. (22) people have been released on bail and (3075) people have already been released. These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.
Naung Htet Aung, the former chairman of the Yangon University of Education Students’ Union, who is currently detained in Obo Prison, was sentenced in absentia to 3 years imprisonment under Penal Code Section 505A by the Special Court in Prison on August 10. Along with him was Naing Thiha Kyaw, a member of the Basic Education General Strike Committee (BEGSC), who was also sentenced in absentia.
On August 12, Ye Win Naing, a local villager, was tortured to death by Junta soldiers who had raided and set fire to Shar Say Chat Village in Pauk Township, Magway Region. His injuries included a severely beaten head, broken fingers, and pierced eyes.
AAPP will continue to inform on verified daily arrests, charges, sentences and fatalities in relation to the attempted coup, and update the lists with details of these alleged offences.
