Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

According to AAPP documentation, at least (678) houses and buildings have been sealed off by Junta between February 2021 and June 2022.  

Since the February 1, 2021 military coup and the emergence of the Spring Revolution, a total of  (2091) people, pro-democracy activists and other civilians have been killed through military crackdown following pro-democracy movements. AAPP compiled and documented (3) fallen heroes today. These (3) fallen heroes, from Tamu Township, Myaung Township and Ye-U Township in Sagaing Region, were killed on previous days, but documented today. This is the number verified by AAPP. The actual number of fatalities is likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.              

As of July 18, 2022, a total of (11663) people are currently under detention. (1345) are serving sentences, of them (78) have been sentenced to death (incl. 2 children). (120) people have been sentenced in absentia, of whom (41) have been sentenced to death. This makes a total of (119) who have been sentenced to death. (21) people have been released on bail and (3045) people have already been released.     

On July 14, reporter Maybal aka Nyein Nyein Aye, was charged under Section 505-A of the Penal Code by the special court in Insein Prison to three years imprisonment with hard labour. She was arrested on January 15 while on her way to cover some news. 

On July 17, the junta forces fired artillery weapons at Sal Village, Myaung Township, Sagaing Region. An artillery shell landed on a teashop in the village, and 20-year old Myat Thandar Aung died instantly.
