Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

According to AAPP documentation, at least (678) houses and buildings have been sealed off by Junta between February 2021 and June 2022.  

Since the February 1, 2021 military coup and the emergence of the Spring Revolution, a total of  (2077) people, pro-democracy activists and other civilians have been killed through military crackdown following pro-democracy movements. AAPP compiled and documented (1) fallen hero today. This (1) fallen hero, from Wetlet Township in Sagaing Region, was killed on July 10, but documented today. This is the number verified by AAPP. The actual number of fatalities is likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.              

As of July 12, 2022, a total of (11483) people are currently under detention. (1246) are serving sentences, of them (74) have been sentenced to death (incl. 2 children). (120) people have been sentenced in absentia, of whom (41) have been sentenced to death. This makes a total of (115) who have been sentenced to death. (21) people have been released on bail and (3045) people have already been released.     

On July 10, Ni Lone, living in Sai Naing Lay Village, Wetlet Township, Sagaing Region, died on the spot when the Infantry Battalion 42 fired heavy artillery at Sai Naing Lay Village. They attacked after a junta military vehicle had been hit by a mine near Sai Naing Lay Village.

Hla Thein, Chairman of Union Election Commission (UEC), Secretary Myint Naing, and commission member Than Htay, were sentenced to three years in prison under Section 130-a of the Penal Code on July 7 by the special court inside Nay Pyi Taw Prison.
