Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

According to AAPP documentation, at least (678) houses and buildings have been sealed off by Junta between February 2021 and June 2022.  

Since the February 1, 2021 military coup and the emergence of the Spring Revolution, a total of  (2076) people, pro-democracy activists and other civilians have been killed through military crackdown following pro-democracy movements. AAPP compiled and documented (2) fallen heroes today. These (2) fallen heroes, from Seikphyu Township in Magway Region and Kale Township in Sagaing Region, were killed on previous days, but documented today. This is the number verified by AAPP. The actual number of fatalities is likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.              

As of July 11, 2022, a total of (11478) people are currently under detention. (1245) are serving sentences, of them (74) have been sentenced to death (incl. 2 children). (120) people have been sentenced in absentia, of whom (41) have been sentenced to death. This makes a total of (115) who have been sentenced to death. (21) people have been released on bail and (3045) people have already been released.     

On July 6, Cho Yamin Han, a teacher involved in the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM), is detained in Mandalay’s Obo Prison, was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment under Section 50(j) of the Counter-Terrorism Law by the special court in Obo Prison. She lives in Zayet Kwin Village, Thabeikkyin Township, Mandalay Region and was arrested at her home on December 15, 2021.

On the evening of July 9, Moung Sung Kai, living in Chan Myae Aung Si Ward, Kale Township, Sagaing Region, was shot in his back  by Junta soldiers near Seik Kan Thar Market while on a motorbike that has a side carriage; he was giving a ride for his friends. Although he was sent to the hospital, he died on July 10 at 3 am.

AAPP will continue to inform on verified daily arrests, charges, sentences and fatalities in relation to the attempted coup, and update the lists with details of these alleged offences.
