Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

According to AAPP documentation, at least (678) houses and buildings have been sealed off by Junta between February 2021 and June 2022.  

Since the February 1, 2021 military coup and the emergence of the Spring Revolution, a total of  (2069) people, pro-democracy activists and other civilians have been killed through military crackdown following pro-democracy movements. AAPP compiled and documented (1) fallen hero today. This (1) fallen hero, from Kale Township in Sagaing Region, was killed on July 4, but documented today. This is the number verified by AAPP. The actual number of fatalities is likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.              

As of July 7, 2022, a total of (11443) people are currently under detention. (1217) are serving sentences, of them 74 have been sentenced to death (incl. 2 children). (120) people have been sentenced in absentia, of them 41 sentenced to death. This makes a total of (115) who have been sentenced to death. (21) people have been released on bail and (3045) people have already been released.     

Soe Thura Kyaw a.k.a Poet Thar Shar, a former chairman of the Yangon University of Education Students’ Union (All Burma Federation of Student Unions), was arrested on September 24, 2021, and was sentenced to eight years imprisonment under Section 52(a) of the Counter-Terrorism Law and Section 505-A of the Penal Code on June 27th, 2022.

A local villager named Mone Pe was tortured to death after being captured when the military column raided Yae Shin Village in Sagaing Region’s Kale Township on July 4. When the military column left the village on July 6, the body of Mone Pe was cremated.
