Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

According to AAPP documentation, at least (678) houses and buildings have been sealed off by Junta between February 2021 and June 2022.  

Since the February 1, 2021 military coup and the emergence of the Spring Revolution, a total of  (2068) people, pro-democracy activists and other civilians have been killed through military crackdown following pro-democracy movements. AAPP compiled and documented (3) fallen heroes today. These (3) fallen heroes, from Bilin Township in Mon State and Wetlet Township in Sagaing Region, were killed on previous days, but documented today. This is the number verified by AAPP. The actual number of fatalities is likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.              

As of July 6, 2022, a total of (11436) people are currently under detention. (1214) are serving sentences, of them 74 have been sentenced to death (incl. 2 children). (120) people have been sentenced in absentia, of them 41 sentenced to death. This makes a total of (115) who have been sentenced to death. (21) people have been released on bail and (3045) people have already been released.     

Myo Thura Aung, the Central Executive Committee Member at Mawlamyine University Students’ Union and the former documentation and research incharge, was arrested by junta forces at his home in Mawlamyine Town, Mon State, on June 30. He was arrested on suspicion of providing financial support to the People’s Defense Forces (PDF).  

Yu Yu Lwin, a primary school teacher who’s participated in the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM), was arrested while she was temporarily visiting her home in Myeik Town, Tanintharyi Region, on July 2. Her presence was informed by a junta informant.

AAPP will continue to inform on verified daily arrests, charges, sentences and fatalities in relation to the attempted coup, and update the lists with details of these alleged offences.
