Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

According to AAPP documentation, at least (617) houses and buildings have been sealed off by Junta between February 2021 and May 2022.  

Since the February 1, 2021 military coup and the emergence of the  Spring Revolution, a total of  (2007) people, pro-democracy activists and other civilians have been killed through military crackdown following pro-democracy movements. AAPP compiled and documented (7) fallen heroes today. These (7) fallen heroes from Hpakant Township in Kachin State and Katha Township and Chaung-U Township in Sagaing Region, were killed on previous days, but documented today. This is the number verified by AAPP. The actual number of fatalities is likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.              

As of June 22, 2022, a total of (11174) people are currently under detention. (1190) people have been sentenced in person, of them 74 have been sentenced to death (incl. 2 children). (120) people have been sentenced in absentia, of them 41 sentenced to death. This makes a total of (115) who have been sentenced to death. (21) people have been released on bail and (3042) people have already been released.     

On June 19 at around 1:30 pm, Hla Hla Moe, who was living in Pu Lway Shwe Village in Sagaing Region’s Katha Township, was killed by junta artillery shells. She was severed below the waist while taking a bath in her home. The armed wing of the junta were on a motorboat in the Ayeyarwady River, when they fired heavy weaponry into Pu Lway Shwe Village.

On the morning of June 20, Khin Myo Win, living in Hmaw Pon Village in Lone Khin Village Tract of Hpakant Township, Kachin State, died near Nant Yar Village. She was sent to Myitkyina Hospital from Hpakant Hospital to receive medical treatment after being shot by junta artillery shells while celebrating Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s birthday on June 19.
