Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

According to AAPP documentation, at least (547) houses and buildings have been sealed off by the Junta since the 2021 coup up until March 2022.  

As of April 21, 2022, (1779) people are now confirmed killed by this junta coup. Today, there were no confirmed fallen heroes. This is the number verified by AAPP, the actual number of fatalities is likely much higher. We will continue adding as and when.  

As of April 21, 2022, a total of (10282) people are currently under detention. (999) people have been sentenced in person, of them 59 have been sentenced to death (incl. 2 children). 1977 are evading arrest warrants. 120 people have been sentenced in absentia, of them 41 sentenced to death in absentia. In total 100 sentenced to death, in person and absentia. The exact identities and total figure remains to be verified, but we will continue to confirm the recently released.     

On April 20, Dr. Htar Htar Linn, director of the Department of Public Health in the Ministry of Health, and Director-General Dr. Soe Oo, who participate in the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM), were given prison sentences by the High Court of Mandalay Region. The pair were alleged to have mismanaged the COVID-19 vaccination campaign budget. Dr.Htar Htar Linn was charged under the Anti-Corruption Law Section-56 and handed a sentence of 3 years in prison with hard labor. While Dr. Soe Oo was charged with the Anti-Corruption Law Section-56/63 and handed a sentence of 2 years in prison with hard labor.

On April 18, at around 9 AM, trishaw driver Oak Kar from Bae Inn Ward in Kale Township, Sagaing Region, was beaten and arrested by junta soldiers and Pyu Saw Htee personnel. Afterwards, persons connected with Oak Kar, named Kyaw Shein, Swe Win and Min Sein, who also lived in the same ward, were searched for. But since they could not be found, 4 women; Kyaw Shein’s wife, Swe Win’s daughter, Min Sein’s wife and another woman were taken as hostages.
