Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

As of February 25, (1582) people are now confirmed killed by this junta coup. AAPP compiled and documented (3) fallen heroes today. These (3) fallen heroes from Kale Township in Sagaing Region were killed on February 23 and documented today. This is the number verified by AAPP. The actual number of fatalities is likely much higher. We will continue adding as and when.    

As of February 25, a total of (9378) people are currently under detention. (767) people have been sentenced in person, of them 45 have been sentenced to death (incl. 2 children). 1973 are evading arrest warrants. 118 people have been sentenced in absentia, of them 39 sentenced to death in absentia. In total 84 sentenced to death, in person and absentia. The exact identities and total figure remains to be verified, but we will continue to confirm the recently released.

In the morning of February 23, three IDPs fleeing from Cahung Khwa Village, in Sagaing Region’s Kale Township, were killed by Junta soldiers after being arrested at a hut in the farm of Than Pho Village. The victims were Nu Ngun Za Len, aged 40 years old, and her two daughters, Mai Thian Nun Cawi and Mai Ngun Za Thian, aged 16 and 14 years old respectively. Local villagers found their bodies burnt in the farm of East Than Pho Village on February 24. 

On February 24, nine youngsters named Ye Min Kyaw, Kyaw Zaya, Aung Myo Hein, Aye Soe Paing, Aung Myo Htwe, Su Hlaing Nway, San Myat Myat Htoo, Htet Htet Zaw and Ei Thandar were sentenced to nine years imprisonment with hard labor by the special court in Tanintharyi Region’s Dawei Prison. They were arrested on May 29, 2021 at a restaurant in Dawei Township and then charged under Section 505 (a) and (c) of the Penal Code, and Section 52 of the Counter Terrorism Law. Su Hlaing Nway, one of the sentenced, suffers from uterine and kidney diseases and is in need of medical treatment.
