Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

As of February 2, (1510) people are now confirmed killed by this junta coup. AAPP compiled and documented (3) fallen heroes today. These (3) fallen heroes from Kalay Township in Sagaing Region and Thanlyin Township in Yangon Region were killed on previous days and documented today. This is the number verified by AAPP. The actual number of fatalities is likely much higher. We will continue adding as and when.  

As of February 2, a total of (8934) people are currently under detention. (666) people have been sentenced in person, of them 45 have been sentenced to death (incl. 2 children). 1972 are evading arrest warrants. 118 people have been sentenced in absentia, of them 39 sentenced to death in absentia. In total 84 sentenced to death, in person and absentia. The exact identities and total figure remains to be verified, but we will continue to confirm the recently released.

Aung Thet Oo, who is an engineer of the Municipal Department from Tanintharyi Township, in  Tanintharyi Region, and involved in the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM), was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment under Counterterrorism Law on February 1. In addition to this, a protest leader named Tun Oo was sentenced to 7 years imprisonment under Section 51 and 52(a) of the Counterterrorism Law on January 31 by the special court in Dawei Prison. Tun Oo was already sentenced to 19 years imprisonment on December 31, 2021 by that court. 

Yi Yi Khaing a.k.a Nu Tem Boih, who is a middle school teacher involved in the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM), was shot in the stomach by the armed wing of the Junta at Kalay Township in Sagaing Region on February 1, at around 9 am, and died at the hospital. She was shot when she was driving a motorbike to her mother’s house.   

AAPP will continue to inform on verified daily arrests, charges, sentences and fatalities in relation to the attempted coup, and update the lists with details of these alleged offenses.
