Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

As of January 21, (1488) people are now confirmed killed by this junta coup. Today, there were no confirmed fallen heroes. This is the number verified by AAPP, the actual number of fatalities is likely much higher. We will continue adding as and when.

As of January 21, a total of (8716) people are currently under detention. (635) people have been sentenced in person, of them 43 have been sentenced to death (incl. 2 children). 1966 are evading arrest warrants. 118 people have been sentenced in absentia, of them 39 sentenced to death in absentia. In total 82 sentenced to death, in person and absentia. The exact identities and total figure remains to be verified, but we will continue to confirm the recently released.

On January 20, Thant Zin Tun, NLD MP for Pyithu Hluttaw in Dekkhinathiri Township, Naypyitaw, was sentenced to three years imprisonment under Section 505(a) of the Penal Code, by the Special Court at Naypyitaw Prison. He has been detained since March 1, 2021.

On January 19, Kyaw Soe Naing, Regional MP of No.2 Constituency in Nganzun Township, Mandalay Region, was arrested by the armed wing of the Junta in Ywar Thit Gyi Village in Sagaing Township, Sagaing Region. He had an arrest warrant issued against him under Section 505(a) of the Penal Code at Nganzun Myoma Police Station. A house owner named Htay Lwin was also arrested. 

AAPP will continue to inform on verified daily arrests, charges, sentences and fatalities in relation to the attempted coup, and update the lists with details of these alleged offenses.
