Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

As of December 30, (1382) people are now confirmed killed by this junta coup. This is the number verified by AAPP, the actual number of fatalities is likely much higher. We will continue adding as and when.

As of December 30, a total of (8331) people are currently under detention. (487) people have been sentenced in person, of them 39 have been sentenced to death (incl. 2 children). 1964 are evading arrest warrants. 118 people have been sentenced in absentia, of them 39 sentenced to death in absentia. In total 78  sentenced to death, in person and absentia. The exact identities and total figure remains to be verified, but we will continue to confirm the recently released.

On December 30, Dr. Aung Moe Nyo, chief minister of Magway Region, was sentenced to 18 years in prison. Dr. Aung Moe Nyo was charged under five counts of Section 55 Anti-Corruption Law and sentenced to three years imprisonment for each charge. 

On December 30, two NLD executive committee members, U Han Thar Myint and Dr. Myo Nyunt, and U Thein Oo, 2020 Election Campaign Group accountant, were sentenced each to two years imprisonment. The trio were sentenced under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code by the Insein Prison’s special court. 

 

In addition to this, Ko Min Thway Thit, a student leader, was sentenced to one-year imprisonment. Ko Min Thway Thit was sentenced under Section 95 of the Vehicle Safety and Motor Vehicle Management Law by Insein Prison’s Special Court on December 30.
