Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

As of December 24, (1365) people are now confirmed killed by this junta coup. This is the number verified by AAPP, the actual number of fatalities is likely much higher. We will continue adding as and when.

As of December 24, a total of (8234) people are currently under detention. (414) people have been sentenced in person, of them 36 have been sentenced to death (incl. 2 children). 1964 are evading arrest warrants. 118 people have been sentenced in absentia, of them 39 sentenced to death in absentia. In total 75 sentenced to death, in person and absentia. The exact identities and total figure remains to be verified, but we will continue to confirm the recently released.

On December 22, Tun Tun Hein, Deputy Speaker of the Pyithu Hluttaw, was sentenced to four years imprisonment with hard labour. Tun Tun Hein was sentenced under Section 505(a) and 505(b) of the Penal Code by Lashio Prison court.

On December 22, Aung Hphone Maw, a fourth year student of the Mathematics Department in Yangon University, was sentenced to three years imprisonment with hard labour. Aung Hphone Maw is also an executive committee member of the Yangon University Students’ Union. He was sentenced under Section 505(a) of the Penal Code by Insein Prison court. Aung Hphone Maw was arrested on March 3 during a protest held in Kyauk Myaung Ward in Yangon Region’s Tamwe Township.
