Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

As of December 21, (1351) people are now confirmed killed by this junta coup. AAPP compiled and documented (3) fallen heroes today. These (3) fallen heroes from Pathein Township in Ayeyarwady Region and Gantgaw Township in Magway Region were killed on previous days and documented today. This is the number verified by AAPP. The actual number of fatalities is likely much higher. We will continue adding as and when.

As of December 21, a total of (8153) people are currently under detention. (401) people have been sentenced in person, of them 36 have been sentenced to death (incl. 2 children). 1964 are evading arrest warrants. 118 people have been sentenced in absentia, of them 39 sentenced to death in absentia. In total 75 sentenced to death, in person and absentia. The exact identities and total figure remains to be verified, but we will continue to confirm the recently released.

On December 20, Doctor Myint Naing, a Chief Minister of Sagaing Region, was sentenced to two years imprisonment under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code, by the special court in Sagaing Region’s Shwebo Prison. Doctor Myint Naing was charged under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code, as he was accused of being responsible for a statement that was released by the NLD’s Central Executive Committee, on February 7 and 13. 

On December 19 at around 10 pm, Ma Htay, 60 years old, living in Pathein Township, Ayeyarwady Region, was shot dead in the neck at close range by police, in front of her house. Ma Htays’ death was instant.
