Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

As of December 16, (1345) people are now confirmed killed by this junta coup. AAPP compiled and documented (2) fallen heroes today. These (2) fallen heroes from Shwebo Township in Sagaing Region and Madayar Township in Mandalay Region were killed on previous days and documented today. This is the number verified by AAPP. The actual number of fatalities is likely much higher. We will continue adding as and when.

As of December 16, a total of (8062) people are currently under detention. (393) people have been sentenced in person, of them 36 have been sentenced to death (incl. 2 children). 1964 are evading arrest warrants. 118 people have been sentenced in absentia, of them 39 sentenced to death in absentia. In total 75 sentenced to death, in person and absentia. The exact identities and total figure remains to be verified, but we will continue to confirm the recently released.

On December 12, at around 3 pm Than Myint was detained by the armed wing of the Junta. Than Myint was Secretary of the Mahar Kuthala Kari Free Funeral Service Association based in Sakhan Gyi Kone Village, Yenant Thar Village Tract in Mandalay Region’s Madayar Township. He was killed on December 13 from injuries consistent with torture. Than Myint’s whole body and head and face were covered in bruises from beatings.  

On December 14, 17-year-old Tun Lwin Oo was shot dead, and Pyae Sone Oo arrested by the armed wing of the Junta in Shwebo Township, Sagaing Region. Tun Lwin Oo was driving the motorbike, and Pyae Sone Oo was his passenger when they were fired upon because the pair were riding on the same motorbike.
