Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

As of December 11, (1329) people are now confirmed killed by this junta coup. AAPP compiled and documented (4) fallen heroes today. These (4) fallen heroes from Tabayin Township in Sagaing Region were killed on December 10 and documented today. This is the number verified by AAPP. The actual number of fatalities is likely much higher. We will continue adding as and when.

As of December 11, a total of (7954) people are currently under detention. (385) people have been sentenced in person, of them 36 have been sentenced to death (incl. 2 children). 1964 are evading arrest warrants. 118 people have been sentenced in absentia, of them 39 sentenced to death in absentia. In total 75 sentenced to death, in person and absentia. The exact identities and total figure remains to be verified, but we will continue to confirm the recently released.

On December 9, approximately 100 soldiers of the armed wing of Junta were stationed at Ngartwin Village in Sagaing Region’s Tabayin Township. On the morning of December 10, the junta troops tied the hands of four villagers to their back and tortured and killed the locals. These four villagers were called Toe, Moe, Kan Nyunt and Kyaw Win. 

Nan Nan Tai a.k.a Nan Nway Nway Hlaing, editor in charge, Nan Win Yi, a reporter, Tin Aung Kyaw, a publisher, all of the Kanbawza Tai News and Sai Sithu, one of their family members accused of being a journalist were sentenced to prison on December 10. They were detained since March 24, and sentenced to three years imprisonment under Section 505(a) of the Penal Code by the court in Nyaung Shwe’s Taung Lay Lone prison. Kanbawza Tai News is based in Taunggyi, Shan State.
