Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

As of December 1, (1300) people are now confirmed killed by this junta coup. AAPP compiled and documented (1) fallen hero today. This (1) fallen hero from Waw Township in Bago Region died on November 30 and was documented today. This is the number verified by AAPP. The actual number of fatalities is likely much higher. We will continue adding as and when.

As of December 1, a total of (7668) people are currently under detention. (343) people have been sentenced in person, of them 34 have been sentenced to death (incl. 2 children). 1954 are evading arrest warrants. 118 people have been sentenced in absentia, of them 39 sentenced to death in absentia. In total 73 sentenced to death, in person and absentia. The exact identities and total figure remains to be verified, but we will continue to confirm the recently released.

Sai Mon Zaw, living in Chan Mya Tharsi Ward in Waw Township, Bago Region, died on the morning of November 30 at Swaltaw Specialist Hospital in Bago, while he was receiving medical treatment for injuries consistent with torture during interrogation. Sai Mon Zaw was arrested in April for providing pamphlets during protests that spoke out against the junta. He died after he was released in October.

Saw Yi, who is the mother of detainee Thae Su Naing, was arrested by the armed wing of the Junta on November 30 at around 11:30 am. Thae Su Naing is a teacher, involved in the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM) and was the former chairman of Meiktila University Students’ Union. Thae Su Naing was arrested on November 22.
