Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

On October 18, the junta announced they would release 1316 people who had been sentenced and 4320 people who were facing trial. The exact identities and total figures remain to be verified, but we will continue to verify the recently released.

As of October 20, (1181) people are now confirmed killed by this junta coup. Today there were no confirmed fallen heroes. This is the number verified by AAPP, the actual number of fatalities is likely much higher. We will continue adding as and when.

As of October 20, a total of (7086) people are currently under detention. (312) people have been sentenced in person, of them 26 have been sentenced to death (incl. 2 children). 1954 are evading arrest warrants. 118 people have been sentenced in absentia, of them 39 sentenced to death in absentia. In total 65 sentenced to death, in person and absentia. 

On the afternoon of October 15, Aung Naing Myint, a youth writer, living in Pan Maw Village in Rakhine State’s Myauk-u Township, was arrested by terrorist junta soldiers, for being accused of associating with the People’s Defence Force (PDF). A lawsuit was filed against Aung Naing Myint, and he was charged under Section 50(j) of the Counter-terrorism Law at Myauk-u Township Police Station. 

On October 19 around 4 am, a lawyer named Sandar Cho was arrested by the junta at a house in Alel Kone Village in Tanintharyi Region’s Dawei Township.
