Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

As of 25 August, (1016) people are now confirmed killed by this junta coup. AAPP compiled and documented (2) fallen heroes today. These (2) fallen heroes from Khayan Township and Tharkayta Township in Yangon Region were killed on previous days and documented today. This is the number verified by AAPP, the actual number of fatalities is likely much higher. We will continue adding as and when.

As of August 25, a total of (5937) people are currently under detention. (255) people have been sentenced in person, of them 26 have been sentenced to death (incl. 2 children). 1984 are evading arrest warrants. 118 people have been sentenced in absentia, of them 39 sentenced to death in absentia. In total 65 sentenced to death, in person and absentia. We are also continuing to verify the recently released detainees. 

On August 24 at around 10 pm, Min Aung, living in (8) Ward in Khayan Township, Yangon Region, was shot and arrested by terrorist junta’s troops while passing in front of the Khayan Police Station on a motorbike returning hom efrom visiting his mother’s house. Min Aung was then beaten in detention and died from the torture. Soe Paing a.k.a. Kyaw Khaing Win, a physics teacher from Tharkayta Township, in Yangon Region, was arrested by the terrorist junta on August 22. He died on the night of August 23 due to torture in interrogation. 

On the evening of August 24, terrorist junta’s troops entered Taw Kyaung Lay Village, in Khin-u Township, Sagaing Region, and arrested Ei Thandar Phyo, the younger sister of an alleged PDF, as hostage when junta troops could not find him. In addition to this, they arrested a local villager, named Nagar, from a betel nut shop at the top of the village. 

Hsu Pyae Aung, a 19-year-old and first year university student majoring in chemistry, was living in Yenangyaung Town in Magway Region, when she was arrested at her home by police wearing plain clothes on August 24 at 10 am. Moreover, Aike Zaw, a radiologist at Homalin Public Hospital in Sagaing Region, who is involved in the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM), was arrested at home in Homalin Town on the evening of August 24 for alleged connection with the PDF. 

AAPP will continue to keep you informed of verified daily arrests, charges, sentences and fatalities in relation to the attempted coup, and update our lists to the details of these alleged offences.
